I was 13 when the gulf war was launched. i grew up in the biggest Military Installation in the world.........Hampton Roads, Virginia. specificaly in my case.....Virginia Beach,Va. and 1/4 of a mile from Oceana Naval Air Station. literaly, the F-14's, F-18's, A-6's and EA-6B's would shake the pictures off the walls of my and my mothers condo. they were so low i could read the name and "call sign" of the pilot and his RIO or BN.
anyway, one of the things i remember was the Yellow Ribbons EVERYWHERE. even the local fast-food places, mostly Hardee's and BK, had yellow ribbons in every window.
my point is.......we should bring this back. Yellow Ribbons should be where American Flags were on sept. 12th. it shouldnt matter if you support our war/policy or not, we ALL either directly or indirectly know someone who's over there and they NEED our support.
You should volunteer for the USO as a PR Specialist! I Love it!!!
And agree with ya!!!
A tiny blurb about the "Yellow Ribbon Campaign". Goes back a bit beyond the Gulf War:
Patriotic Yellow Ribbons
The yellow ribbons originated from a Tony Orlando song of the sixties called 'Tie a Yellow Ribbon 'round the Old Oak Tree'. Since then families and friends of our armed forces display yellow ribbons in honor of those going to 'serve their country' to show we hope and pray for their safe return.

you're right, and i saw many a ribbon 'round a tree! even at 13 i was amazed by it. i suppose thats where my absolute support for our military comes from.
Keep up the great work!
i will, thank you. i dont have to tell you that we should ALL do what we can for our troops!
GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS, OUR PRESIDENT AND OUR COUNTRY
People have done that to the point where no one knows what it means anymore. What color is the military? How about Susan Koman Breast Cancer Awareness? Gay rights? Womans Lib? Anti-war? Grape Pickers in California? Bush won, get over it? Brad Pitt Should Have Stayed in Iraq? Martin Sheen ain't really the President, but don't tell him?
Get a flag, USA or Canadian. Wear it proudly and don't let your government get sideways in the turns. Stay on them and let them know you are watching.
Does anyone remember the words to that song? Yes it was done by Tony Orlando and Dawn. The song was about a person coming home from PRISON and asking if he was/is still loved and wanted. Our troops are not in prison and Yes they are still LOVED and wanted. I wish another color (sorry Mil1ion colour if you prefer) were used for our fighting men and women.
We just put a red white and blue ribbon around our tree yesterday. Funny this thread should come up. My parents said, during past wars, they used to put yellow ribbons up, and most of our neighbors did as well.
