radio static

Hello all. Love this Forum. I sold my 97 Expedition, and bought a 97 Explorer 4.0 SOHC as a replacement. When I bought the explorer at 100k, it had just had $1800.00 engine service of Cam shaft chains, intake man kit, gaskets etc... but when the Ford dopes stabbed the engine back on, they didnt line the tranny up correctly so 10 miles later wouldnt go! Bummer... (I guess the "dog ears" got chewed up on the pump. )Well I'm getting a tranny rebuild w/new pump, and the tech says its real clean so I hope my engine and tranny are set for a long time. My only gripe I immediately have is radio static on AM band. I was planning anyway to put new plugs and wires in when I pick it up Monday, would a new coil help? Anything else I can do to reduce static? I did not notice if it was related to throttle speed or not, since I really only got to drive it for about 10 miles, and I was going to put new plugs and wires anyway, but would a coil lessen electrical interference? Thanks in advance.

It's most likely plug wires, but also check the ground connections.
They may have left some ground connections floating...
