anyone that does there own oil changes and that have the 5.0 engine, how much oil do you put in with a new filter to get the the full "do not add" mark on the dipstick?
Welcome to FTE and the Big Bronco Forum. We will do our best to get you the most accurate info we can.
Depends on a few things... how long you let it drain, condition of the old oil, capillarity differs over time and varies with viscosity and contaminants in the fluid. Change relatively clean or newer oil and you will "replace" less of it than you would with old dirty oil.
well thanks for the replies. this bronco has 211000 miles on and its the original drive train and still purrs like a kitten and runs real strong! to say the least im very impressed. she doesnt even burn any oil that i can tell(ive put 3000 miles on since i bought her and she read full when i got her and still full after the 3000) but i put 5 quarts and she was ***** on at the full mark on the dipstick. i checked the tube and shes seated in the block nicely and no movement or leaks so i dunno i really dont want to overfill her so i guess i will stick to 5 qts with a new filter. sure seems like some one would have gotton to the bottom of this issue long before i came along and raised this question though. anywho thanks all for posting replies. broncos are AWESOME!
I'd rather be a little low on oil than have too much.
yeah that's my take on it too that's why the owner's manual saying that it takes six really has me shocked. it would really be bad imo to have a whole quart too much in an engine.
