I hope by the last of the week, I am into my locked engine to see if it is junk or not. But I decided to try and get some answers before then so I dont have to do info searching then. I understand that a 04 engine is different that a 03. I have located a short block, for $800 and the fellow says he is not sure it is a 03 or 04. Can you tell by the serial numbrs? I have heard of fellows having a 04 truck but found out it had a 03 engine. Second choice is I found a complete 04 ( again might be a 03 out of a 04) 35k miles, complete with turbo, wireing harness, ficm, (probably wont work on mine because mine is a std trans) for $2k (looks clean) What will I thave to take off mine to make it works. Will the 04 sensors and every thing work? If mine is junk, I am leaning more toward the complete low miles engine as I can get $500 for my turbo and same for each head. How can I indify the engines?
03 has the ICP and IPR sensors under the turbo. 04 has a sensor (ICP) in the passenger side front of the valve cover.
But if I go look at a short block, it will not have any valve covers on it. If I go to Ford, could they tell me by the serial # on block when the 04 numbers started?.
