Add 61 or later 64 dual wheel cylinders and components. Easy conversion. Or go full and add disc brakes.

If already had not done so, try Napa Auto Parts; purchased kits for 64 and 65, this was a few yrs. ago. With the 64 the cylinders were in good condition and ended up buying the rebuild kit, if end up going this route make sure to take the cups with you. Probly 2-3 yrs ago had to rebuild entire rear brakes on the 65; drums, shoes, cylinders, and hardware, find they usually carry quality merchandise and occasionally find products are imported. On 1 occasion I was in a pinch and found cylinders thru Auto Zone, they were not the best quality, made in China, as noted, but so far holding up. Perhaps another member will had additional info, or suggestions.

1962 F100 2WD from serial number 290,001 / 1963 F100 2WD:

C2TZ-2061-A .. Right Front Wheel Cylinder - 1 1/16" / Obsolete

C2TZ-2062-A .. Left Front Wheel Cylinder - 1 1/16" / Obsolete

No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has either one.

If unable to find new cylinders at autoparts stores, what garbz2 said to do, is the only alternative. Unless...

If the cylinders aren't badly pitted and can be honed out, then...all you have to do...is replace the innards.

2) 8C-2221 .. 1 1/16" Wheel Cylinder Kit / Obsolete / Use w/1948/52 F1 & 1953/63 F100 w/1 1/16" wheel cylinders.

Most autoparts stores should have these, it doesn't make any difference if the cylinders are halfs...or not.

Bill,

I had seen someone recently was reproducing the single units, but i cant remember were. I have only had about ten sets of them NOS i scrounged up years ago and sold them at swap meets.

If BC wants safe drums the best bet is to upgrade to the dual units. I have done this a few times including on a 62 F250. The parts are all commonly obtained. He can even upgrade to self adjusting as the hardware kits have all the parts and pieces.

Yes, I agree 100%, and said as much. But very few peeps have the mechanical knowledge/skills you do, know what interchanges.

And...the parts to make these changes may not be readily available where they reside, so they're stuck as a bug on flypaper.

I still scratch my gourd at what ford was thinking going to the single units. I did my first brake job on a 63 as a teenager and could not find any replacements then. So i improvised and asked for all the parts for a 61 and it all bolted right on.
