i just put a new egr valve and epv sensor in today. and the first time i drove it it drove great, it idled a lot smoother and didn't buck as much. well i parked it and went to drive it again and then it was spuddering really bad and the accleration levels off extremely badly at approx 2.5 grand. the truck turned into a complete dog. it couldn't move to get out of it's own way. my truck is really starting to p*** me off. i have no clue what this could be, so i could use any suggestions
i was thinking that maybe i have really dirty injectors and they need to be cleaned really well, and i just remembered that i had taken off the negative cable for a few hours to reset the computer and maybe it didn't reset it's self correctly so i am taking the cable off tonite and i will se how it does on my way to work tomorrow, i am keeping my fingers crossed and not trying to get too agitated
A couple of years ago, I put a "new" (from the parts store) mass air flow sensor on the wife's car. That's what the computer diagnostics code indicated was wrong. It didn't really fix the problem, so I went on searching for something else. After a month or so, I gave up and took it to the shop. Turned out the NEW MAFS I had put in was BAD! The second new one (from NAPA) had it running like a top! Unfortunatly, it being "electronic", the first parts dealer wouldn't take it back, because (they said) it could have been damaged by being improperly installed or installed into an otherwise malfuntioning system. I've never been back to that parts store.
Bottom line... maybe your "new" egr is bad...??? NAPA sells a BG product that is GREAT for cleaning up carbs, FI and engine carbon. It's called "BG-44k". It's a little pricey - just under $20 - but works great. You just dump it in a FULL tank of gas. I do that about 1-2x a year. It acts a little like rocket fuel with lots of extra torque and HP as your burning the tank. Almost worth doing a little more often...
You could try to block off the EGR system to see if that's your problem or maybe something else.
On my 300 I disconnected the metal line going into the EGR valve and cut out a small circle of tin, stuck it in the flare and bolted it back together, the tin had to be cut just small enough to fit in the hole, and seal inbetween the EGR and the pipe without squeezing down to far and leaking. This mod helped out my idle alot too. There are other posts about an EGR blocking plate but this took about 10 minutes and I had the tin.
I did this on a car I had that had air injection in the exhaust ports in the head, I ran it for years, never had problems.
