I just bought this van as a work van, it seems mechanically solid, no major rust anywhere, just some flaking/peeling paint, and a little minor damage. It has close to 150,000 miles, and I don't expect to put more than 4-5000 miles per year on it.
I'm new to this generation of engine, tranny, etc, so what sorts of things do I need to look out for--known issues, common problems, etc.?
I have the very same setup, but mine's a Super (extended) cargo. I use it as a work van too.
The 4.2 is supposed to be a very good reliable engine. They had some gasket issues but they were fixed by 1999 or so. It's not fast, but you shouldn't be driving it fast anyway.
I flushed the ATF and it made a difference in how the trans worked. Mine had never been changed (found the white plug in the pan) and needed it.
I bet other people here can add more info. I had to rebuild the alternator, aside from that no mechanical issues. I have about 138K miles.
