Power and mileage, not sure which one i have know, But I am thinking about the 58v mod and then I would get them to flash the best one at the same time!
I've heard the VXAP2E2 strategy has the potential to make the most power on the earlier motors. I don't know if it's true or not, but that's kept me from getting re-flashed for a long time.
VXAP2 is one of the latter strategies, so it won't be the best performing. I believe that's a TEC7 series strategy. I have VXAP1, which is TEC6 and the first to eliminate the EBP sensor. The best performance comes from the TEC5 and earlier strategies that still used the EBP sensor.
With that said, I would probably get the latest that adds the mild inductive heating for cold starts and has the codes that alert you of oil cooler efficiency. Then if you aren't happy with mileage you can get your FICM tuned and/or get custom SCT tunes.

I have an sct that i just bought last week. this is why I am asking these questions. I would like to have the best strategy on the ficm when I get custom tunes for it.
cold start is a concern for me living in The great white north. we saw temps of -45c this winter and the truck started good all winter long! so I would probably give up some performance for cold start.
If you see temps that cold, I would get the latest flash to ensure you have the safe inductive heating strategy. Do you know when it was last flashed, or can you read the strategy with your SCT and tell us what it is? With those temps, no way should you go back to one of the early strategies that don't use inductive heating.
Without knowing when it was last flashed, it's hard to say which version of inductive heating you have. VXAP2 has been used for a few years and covers several revisions. How long have you had the truck?

I don't believe the latest flash that monitors the oil coolers is for 03-04 model years. The oil cooler monitor is monitored through the "wrench light". Which my 04 doesn't have. The TSB shows only for 05 and up. Although the opening paragraph lists everything that has a 6.0l. It only lists 05 and newer for new calibration.
Yeah, you're right, I remember reading that before. OP, I would find out when it was flashed last, if the truck is new to you, you can ask the dealership to check the OASIS report. If it isn't in the last two years, I would get it reflashed with the latest to ensure you have the milder, safer for FICM, inductive heating strategy.
Ok, I would definitely get the latest flash to ensure you don't have the aggressive inductive heating that is hard on FICMs. Either that, or wait until your FICM fails and is replaced to get it reflashed. Any custom tunes you get for either should work fine, so you can get tunes now, and they'll work with the later strategy just fine.
