Service time again

Ok well its my 6 month service time and just to make sure do you guys change your fuel filters every 6 months to? I have to go by months coz im way off of mileage I probably only put 2500-3000 since my last oil change.

No, I use miles. I drain it every month. And, like you mine sits idle for months at a time. I didn't know there was a 6 month change requirment. I'll check it out. Don't make sense to me, but I'll check anyway.

I drive mine too much so I go by miles, I do however write down the hours on the filter reciept should there ever be a question.

So do you guys change your fuel filters every oil change? or every other? I was thinking my owners manual said every 6 months or 6000 miles

For "normal" service, manual say 20k miles for fuel filters. Severe duty says 10k. I usually split the difference. I do change oil every 5k miles though. I do a pretty fair amount of driving, so the issue of miles, vs "so many" months doesn't apply in my case.

If I waited till 5000 to change my oil it would almost be a year LOL and i drive it every day about 10 miles to and from work. So ok fuel change maybe one a year and oil every 6 months does that sound pretty safe?

Do you check the oil often. Doing that short run to work and back I would think you would be prone to "make oil". That occurs with partial regens or with bio diesel or sometimes it just happens. I would suggest an oil anaylsis when you do the change just to see where you stand. Mine was making oil and I had 6% fuel in my oil. I am now on a very strict regimen. I do oil changes at 5000 mile intervals, then at each 1000 miles I drain the oil down to 1 quart low and put in a quart of fresh. I replaced my drain plug with a quick change valve so it's pretty easy and quick to do. I'm only 3800 miles into my first cycle but I had an oil analysis at 2500 miles and it was great so I think it works. It's probably not for everybody but I feel better when the oil is full, not over full.

honestly no im really bad at checking my oil i know bad jr bad jr it just escapes me. I had it at the dealer for my 60,000 they said all was good just a few weeks ago. I used to know how to do the oil test thing on our old Detroit engines but how and where do you do them for pickups? And with my driveing habits would changeing every 6 months work do you think?

I don't know if the 6 month change would make a difference or not. I would suggest an oil anaylsis. Go online to blackstone.com and they will send you a test kit with instructions. That's all free. When you send your sample it's $25. But you will get a very thorough report and will know where you stand. (I'm gonna try to attach one of my reports for you). You may not need to do anything but at least you will know. I would also suggest you spend some time on this forum reading the stuff that can go bad on these trucks. That info should scare you into checking the fluids and doing maintainence.
