count em n stack em

Just turned 300k on her. not really any info to help anyone here, I am now at the point where low milege, in no way, will ever apply to my truck, so I am gonna try n get it as high as possible. Whats kinda crazy is I bought this in jan of 2010 with 85k on it, and my last truck had 50 miles when i got it in jan of 06 and it had 390k on it when I got into an accident and it was totaled. Im about to turn 700k mi done in a 06, 6.0. I talk to alot of "6.0 bashers" out on the road and you can bet on me defending my powerstroke. All I can say is maint, maint, maint. I now have 205k on this truck without losing any injectors.

Wow......that's awesome. You obviously do a lot of highway mileage? What kind of oil do you run, how often do you change it, and what do you use your truck for?

I was just telling the wife that we do need to update our insurance packet since we have added so many extras lately. After the almost 400k on the old dually(2006 auto 4x4), I learned a bit about this drivetrain. I haul campers from the factories to dealers in the US and Canada. With this job I am garaunteed that at least 50% of the miles I run are loaded. I am sure this sounds unreasonable, but I only roll 58 mph. Me and my wife are both out here and I bought some extra doors and some other things and fabricated a ""legal" (by legal I mean I have had 3 level 1 inspections while logging sleeper and it passed all three) sleeper berth. We switch off and the truck rolls nonstop. We have made it from Indiana to Vancouver Island with a total time of 39 hours the trailer was hooked to my truck. It is a 2400 mile run. In the winter, my truck has seen many weeks that I only shut it off to change the oil. However, with the fumoto valve, a small funnel, and the three empty jugs from the last oil change, I will just pull over and change it (5000 miles, no more no less) I tried for a quick min to keep track of where the 5k increment was, then decided to change it early once to get my increment on a 5k increment on the odo. I also have that updated fuel separator drain plug and drain it every oil change (it helps to clean the funnel). I just put a post on this oil change process I use that eliminates the need of a drain pan. I also have the increment of fuel filter changes at every 10k (ex 265k, 275k, 285k). Makes it simple. I also have a hookup in Minnesota that I get recor, or racor, fuel filter kits for $15 each shipped to my door. I keep 4 at home and 4 at the yard in Indiana. I am always rolling with one in the cab.
I have 153 gallon capacity, for every fillup I put about 2 qts of new rotella. It has been working for me. In my mind I think of it as "dirtying" up this 500ppm fuel. My truck actually thrives on the old fuel, "pre emissions" fuel. Plus what would add more lubricity that clean oil.
I service the transfer case and the transmission every 50k. With the manual trans, this service is very simple. However the wife turned me onto Sally beauty supply and we got some "shampoo" ,I guess, bottles that hold a quart with a pump and I use that to fill. I am sittin here with my eyes wide open to hear what you guys do to make the filling of the trans and diffs easier. I do the rear diff every 100k and the front diff every 200k. I did the front on the old truck at 100k,,,, and it was still clear. I also buy about 5 cans of brake cleaner (no residue) and spray the crap out of both diffs, I spray it directly on the gears, and in the gears.
I just did 100k on a oem air filter, I have always changed it at 50k, and I figured I would test and see how my milege drops with that extended interval. I think I'm gonna go to 75k increment. Oh a little tip on changing that pita, With a flat head screwdriver and pliers, I remove the hose clamp on the pre-turbo air tube, and remove the overflow hose to the radiator, and remove the whole assembly. I put it back together and reinstall it as one peice. takes about 5 min.
I also have one tool that is very nice for coolant. It is a snap-on tool called RADKITPLUS, I think. I bought it used and I can vacuum down the coolant system and use the suction to fill the system. Its freakin cool. I do coolant every 50k, and I use distilled water. I know, I know I can go 100k with distilled, but I also had to put a oil cooler in about 100k ago. I did it in the driveway and it took about 14 hours. I also took out the cac and radiator and sprayed the bugs out. And I took off the injector wiring and freed up most of the engine wiring and was very liberal with electrical tape (like 5 rolls), to try and combat any chaffed wire probs that might decide to arise.
I am bouncing around here, I know. I also ride with the cac connector (the blue one that connects to the turbo) and two new clamps. It is my experience that once it blows off, its trash.
I gotta go now, I got my 300k service to do today, coolant, front n rear diffs, oil n filter , air filter, trans n transfer case(no fuel filters though, that is at 305k). I am gonna get some pics on here, I have so much crap on this truck, I think Im at about 300 hours now wiring stuff and upgrading parts etc. I love my latest addon, a Pioneer 4300 dvd, I have in-motion satelite tv in the dash. I also have a 26" flat screen mounted in the back for whoever is off duty to watch. I will get some pics up soon. I am always watching for who has sone what here, some of you guys have awesome ideas. Oh, im rambling now, but I also installed a "dome light override", man I love that, pull off the big road and take a leak off the running board with the door open and,,,,,,,,,,,, no freakin dome light. I just read about the door dinger override that retains the headlight dinger..... OH YEAH, im there. I am thinking of more crap to type but I gotta get to work. I am gonna get some pics today,,,,,I hope I remember. This site is an invaluable resource, it is more useful than my service dvd that I have to change the date on my computer to use. Again, maybe we can use this thread for people to post their tricks on what they do to make maint easier and more efficient.

Holy smokes that's "picking 'em up and setting 'em down". I used to drive a truck for IP on a dedicated run (600 mile round trip a night) and we weren't putting that kind of miles on that Navistar 9400. Through there was only one guy putting the miles on, not two folks.
