I'm with John (jowilker)... Buy the truck (offer a bit less), fix it and drive it / enjoy it. Don't expect to make money on it -- a 2wd F250 just isn't a rare vehicle. I expect to loose money on mine (Mercury F250 4x4), but I'm ok with that, 'cause I get to drive it and have a big s***-eating grin the whole time...
On plus side, every truck nut you meet will comment on your truck, whether he/she is a ford nut or not. It's a nice feeling.
And -- you can wrench it -- no electronic gizmos requiring fancy code readers etc...

Another thought: if you want to retain max value, keep it stock - with period correct parts. I'm really leery about buying a vehicle that has (for example) a mustang front clip, or a 'narrowed 9"' or any other big 3 manufacturer's parts on it -- how can you maintain it if you can't figure out what parts to buy????

There are guys out there that have worked at wrecking yards for years that can pretty much identify a part, just by looking at it. There was one guy I had the honor to know, that new just about everything Ford. He was a wrench for Ford for over 30 yrs. Raced for them, and had more parts than you could imagine at his private yard. A week after his wife of 40+ yrs died, he was so devastated, he quit work, sold his house and parts yard, and vanished. Still, to this day, I have no idea where he went. Sad.

Like bill (ND), my friend really knew his stuff. With out blowing wind up ?????????????? Bill is a very limited part of the Ford community. Knowledge like that will not last forever. At least for 50 yrs or so. :O) I learned so much about Ford motors, trannys and pumpkins from my friend. I will miss him.

I was just saying that I have no idea if it has the original engine or not, but the engine in there has a/c mounts. Hopefully I will be buying this truck tomorrow for a little less than the asking price And honestly, I wont mind if I dont make any money as long as it holds the value of the parts that i put into it.

When it comes to buying old iron, you need to research first get a few options in mind. HAVE CASH ON HAND. Be looking for what you want.
Now you know what to look for as far as cab mounts, rust issues and engine tranny configurations. Money talks. HAVE CASH ON HAND.
We can call this guy all kinds of names for selling it out from under you, bottom line he sold it to someone who had CASH ON HAND.
Never rush into a deal, most deals just happen, you need to have the cash available to negotiate with.
