i have a edelbrock performer intake on my 390 3 speed . i have only 2 options right now either put on my edelbrock 750 4 barrel or my factory 2 barrel fomoco. i have the adapter plate for mounting the 2 barrel. my neighbor is a self professed know all mechanic and he said that the 750 will give me better milage if i stay out of the pedal and that even though it may be a little bigger than the ideal carb for my setup that it will only flow what the engine vacuum calls for. if i understand him correctly. any body out there in ford truck land have any insight or enlightenment they can shed apon this poor old country boy "parts changer" im no mechanic thanks
Technically the 4 should do better becouse you can progressively fatten up the afr rather then it be the same all the way through the rpm band like a 2 barrel.
The one thing that is the trump card is the tuning. You have to be willing to read the tuning manuals, and tweek and geek.

Absolutely agree - the 750 is technically too much carb for all but the craziest build on a 390 but if you're willing to put the time and effort into setting it up properly it should work out fine. You'll just have to educate yourself on the carb and then go through a bit of a trial and error process to get it where it needs to be.
well tough question.... milege or performance. right now im driving a2002 dodge ram with the 5.9 v8 and it only gets 13 mpg tops so i figured my old ford would probably be close to that and have the added style bonus!!! nothing like driving a car thats 8 years older than you are so when i get my ranger the way i want it i plan on selling the ram and buying a cheap 4 banger small car for cummuting to work when im not riding my motorcycle "46 mpg" we just had a nasty hail storm so mabey i can find a reliable car real cheap..... anyways i guess ill put the 2 barrel on for now and rebuild and polish the edelbrock for when i get it the way i want it. thanks for the opinions guys.
