I found a guy that is parting out numerous trucks 80-86, F150/250/350. I asked him what he would charge for a 84-86 F250 4X4 standard cab long bed rolling frame, and he said $400.00. this includes frame, axles, suspension, wheels, driveshafts and x-fer case. Is it worth it? I am trying to change my truck to 4 wheel drive by basically changing my body, motor and transmission into the new frame.
thank you for answering...another question, is there a way to tell that I am getting a F250 frame over lets say 150 or 350? I haven't studied mine all that well and I want to jump on this as fast as I can before it gets gone.
You could be some-what sure by looking at the frontend:
A 150 will have coil springs, not leaf springs
A 250 will have leaf springs and also have the TTB sus*****on
A 350 will have leaf springs and a stright axle (Dana 60)
I'm not sure you could go by that 100% of the time. Someone could have changed frontends at some point, But I would think it would be a good rule of thumb.
F250 4x4s have leafs, 4x2s have coils. Not sure if that changed over the years but that's what's in my mind at the moment.
I forget the exact years but some F350s have TTB fronts (mine, for example). All I generally know is the straight axle was used in the 70s and then again the late 80s or early 90s, the middle was TTB.
Hopefully somebody with more complete information can answer better.
$400 is a lot more than I think that's worth ,depending on trans and transfer case. If you're talking ZF5 trans, BW1356, and full float 10.25" rear, good deal. Anything less, waste of money.
If you're doing thsi swap avoid a F-150 or F-250 setup, unless the F-250 has already been converted to a Dana 60. But unless that's the case, go with a F-350 rolling chassis. Don't waste time and money on this type of swap for a Dana 50. I believe hte years for Dana 60 are '85 - '97.
I only paid $500 for my whole '86 F250 4x4 460, but I was hunting awhile. No rust, faded paint and I had to fiddle with the emissions to get it to pass and no longer have to have them checked. Where are you near?
ok thank you everyone, but I have to put the swap off for sometime until my shop gets fixed, the wife's friend drove her car through the door and destroyed it and hit my truck. not much damage to the truck (small dent in left front fender), however the door is $1200so that took a big chunk of my buget for now.
