My parking brake came apart in the drum on the highway a few weeks ago, and I had the local shop just take out the parts since it was catching and locking the wheel. Now they are telling me the mounting plate is bad, and that new parts is $370 each side! So parts plus labor just to fix the e-brake is over $1000. Does this seem feasible to you? I have a 2004 XLT 4x4.
There's a write-up on how to do it yourself that's just been added to the Tech Folder at the top of this forum. You can get the parts yourself and do the work yourself and save a bunch of money.
Thanks very much for the link, but I don't want to risk damaging it myself, or taking all day to do it. Does that pricing sound reasonable for the e-brake? I'm not sure what to search for on parts websites. I basically need the entire thing, since it crumbled inside the housing! Only the cable is left.
