Now this may be a subject that has been beaten down in the past but I want to ask one more time. I have 96 f250 7.3 with 155k miles. For the last 10k miles its has hesitated in the rpm range from 1200 to 1800. Fuel filter changed multiple times tried atf. Now it really wentbad and it is smoking white blue on start up and if I turn the tuner up it will pop and bang when I rev it and blow black and blue smoke. Any input? Maybe the oring on injectors? Maybe iniectors? Thanks
i had a 97 powerstroke my injector was bad along with my turbo blower swent back to normal after replacements had some sputtering and thick smoke on startup didnt hsave a coolant leak but as ive read that can cause smoke aswell not i big expert but the sputtering and rpm problem was what i stated hope it help
If it was a bent rod you might be able to pull valve covers and look at them while it runs and you could also make sure all the injectors are spitting oil out
Pulled it apart, pushrods are fine. Replaced the uvch and it runs better now but still has a lot of hesitation in 1200 to 1600 rpm shifting into second gear almost like its running on 7 cylinders. My powerstroke has never really run as smooth as one of buddies. Maybe injector replacement would help with it running better? Anything I can adjust timingor anything?
Unplug the electrical connector on the MAP sensor and see if the boost comes back in your power range. Truck will CEL with it unplugged but will go out when you plug the MAP back in.
I unplugged the MAP and it definately seemed to help a lot. It idled smoother and in the up shift in 3rd gear it was still a little hesitant but not nearly what it was before. So what does this mean replace the sensor or? Thanks for the advice
You might look at poppet screws. I had one broken and one backed out on the '95. Never had the problem with '96. the '96 has 40k more miles on it. If you have valve covers off again I say check them.
