Yes you can, but here is the problem. Your stock computer doesn't understand stick. That makes an auto to manual swap a big pain. You will get a constant warning light that the trans is slipping, has incorrect ratios, etc. The computer may also try to throttle back the engines power to help limit the slipping. In other words, without a lot of extra work, the truck will be stuck in limp mode. A computer reflash will solve the problem, or you can get a computer from a 1998 manual trans. Good luck.

I would just sell the one I have and buy a 5sp but a 98-newer ranger around here are hard to find. If you find one there really expensive. Thanks to the high gas prices it drove up the cost of these little trucks. I drove 4 hrs one way to buy the one I have. And I settled for a auto
