Ive got a 94 f 250 turbo diesel idi. I wanna get a little extra power outt of it without spending much money cause im selling it soon and getting a 97 350 powerstroke 4dr. Idk what to do besides cut the cat off and muffler, that should help a little bit but i was just looking for some ideas on how to make a little qquick horsepower. thanks
Just keep driving the truck as is. You aren't keeping it anyway. Put some elbow grease into clean and shine and it will bring more on a trade or sell than anything else you do.
I wouldnt recommend getting more power out of it too. It just needs to be clean and looking well taken care of. Change the engine oil out and the transmission fluid if its auto, change radiator fluid and make sure its got SCA's in the radiator. Cavitation is a big killer of these engines.

if you have a "cat" on your exhaust then you got issues cause its a gas engine lol.... you can cut the muffler off and weld in a delete pipe, that will give you a little more power, not really enough to notice though. you can always adjust the wastegate in a few threads to get a few more lbs of boost. do you get any black smoke when hammering on the throttle? if not, then you have a little room to turn your fuel screw up half a flat or maybe even a full flat. thats pretty much the max of "quick" fixes.
2x oreo, these things didn't come with convertors on them, Maybe he has an actual cat stuck in the exhaust id lure it out with some meow mix and that should help it breathe better.
Ya i figured that out once i looked under it lol. Do you think it will be much louder with the muffler off? And i have no clue where the wastegate is. I didnt even know they had them. and the only time i get black smoke is when i hammer it and it downshifts then i get a little puff
take 'er easy there '95.
since you just joined the site, you just don't understand that we're all pretty easy going and jokes are always meant in fun around here.
'84 is a great guy and meant no disrespect.
whenever people ask about more power with these engines,i always advise first a complete diesel tuneup.
did you know that these injectors and injection pumps are medium ware items and typically last (within specs for max performance and economy that is) for roughly 100k miles?
on an older engine that feels like its lacking power,a good place to start would be a compression test.after passing the compression test,a fresh fuel system; new ip w/ injectors followed by a professional timing setting via using a meter usually brings such new life to these old gal's that one thinks their driving a whole new engine again.because these parts ware so slowly, the performance lose is hardly felt by the owner.
after that is done, then exhaust and custom air intakes is a good place to work on.
Thanks ford but thats just way to much work and money. Im getting my 97 350 4 dr powerstroke in about a month i just wanted to toy witht this one a little. nothing much just simple stuff. I wanna turn up the boost pressure but i dont know how. Ive never messed with these diesels before
THe wastegate is on the turbo itself, it will look like a rod going into a diaphram. I'm not sure which way to turn it (weither you lengthen it or shorten it) It won't be too much louder with the muffler off the turbo does more then the muffler. The best fix for that system is to get rid of the stock downpipe with the squished spot in it.
Ill look, and it sounds sweet now, i took the muffler off and put a big tip on. ill look for the wastegate screw thing. i dont think my truck cause the gay down pipe isnt that the powersttrokes?
Its both ford didn't want to modify the cab seam so when the pipe was made and still hot i think they backed over it with the forklift. When i got my hypermax turbo ( i think ats and banks say the same) they tell you to bent the seam back with a pipe bar or porta power
