My B-4000 decided to not start for me about 3 weeks ago. After repeated attempts the fuel pump did its 2 second cycle and the truck started right up. this has become an erratic problem ever sense. The truck, once started, doesn't suddenly shut off while I'm driving down the road [yet].
Fuel pump, relay switch, or something else?
Check the inertia switch in the passenger floorboard to see if the conector is starting to melt. If not sounds like the fuel pump is about to take a crap on you. Sorry .
Seeing as how you don't hear the fuel pump run for two seconds to prime the system, I agree, maybe put the under hood fuel pump power relay on your suspect list. It's located in the power distribution box. When it acts out, try thumping the relay & see if it'll wake up. Or try swapping it out for a like relay not needed to run the engine, like the AC relay & see how it goes, before buying a repalcement.
If that doesn't do it, maybe try thumping the fuel pump with a long broom handle, or thumping the fuel tank to jar the pump & see if it'll wake up.
If that doesn't do it, make sure the battey voltage is up to snuff & or that you don't have a wiring problem causing a voltage drop to the fuel pump.
A bunch of thoughts for consideration, let us know what you find.
I hate leaving a thread unclosed, so here's the dope. It turned out to be the fuelpump relay. I determined it by giving it a coupla of good whacks, saved me over $140.00 US.
Thanks to PawPaw and wp for their clues.
Great forum, and I'm glad to contribute what I can to it.
