Changed out fuel filter now truck won't start

I removed a crapped out fuel filter that was plumbed in between the fuel pump and the carb and cleaned out the sediment bowl on my '52 239 flathead and now the truck won't start. I filled the sediment bowl with fuel but the fuel pump is not pumping fuel. Truck ran great before, fired up right away. I've got the service manual and there is nothing in there about priming the fuel pump but before I start pulling things apart is there something I'm missing?

Thanks.

I would bet your leaking air. Sometimes the Glass bowl on the pump is hard to get seated on the old gasket or one of your clamps is leaking.
Just my suggestion.
Good luck

I hate to ask, but could you have installed the inline filter backwards?

Thats the first thing that came to my mind. just double check rverything you touched before the problem. did you remove any other fuel lines in between the tank and pump you might of forgot to hook back up? Try putting a little gas directly in the carb and then start if it starts up and then cuts out soon after its not the carb. its a blocked line or disconected line in the mix.

My cyber guess!

Chunk of dirt or rubber holding the needle and seat closed/blocked? As suggested, see if it runs on a prime?

By letting air into the line , there's a chance all the gas has syphoned back down into the tank. How long did you try and crank it. The prime idea is a good one. I'd treat it as you would had it run out of gas.

It runs fine when I trickle gas directly into the carb, filter is on properly, all connections are tight. I'll take another look at the sediment bowl to make sure that's seated properly. Cranked it for 15 minutes with the proper wait times to cool down the starter.

Just to bring back up what Harley and Nord suggested, some filters are directional and will not flow the other direction when plumbed incorrectly. Not sure what type of fuel filter you are using though...

Try pulling off the inline filter and see if you are getting gas to that point. That will answer if it has anything to the sediment bowl or not.
If you don't get gas to that point, empty the sediment bowl, replace and seal, then see if the bowl fills from the tank.

Ive also tryed this trick and helped me pinpoint what the problem was. pull the line before the filter and turn your engine over a few times if your pump is pumping fuel out the line it has to be the filter or carb. Or just try to start without the filter and see what happends.
hope you figure it out.

Clean out your carb, put a fuel filter between the fuel tank and the fuel pump (near the tank), put a second fuel filter between the fuel pump and the carb. See if that'll help with the starting and running.

The culprit is likely a dirty fuel tank and lines that could have plugged up the carb.
