Determining engine size -- 63 F250

Hey all. Just bought an F250 (photos in the gallery if interested) from a guy who didn't know much about the truck. He claimed to be the second owner and said the truck was "all original" and that he got it because his wife thought it was cute. I'm trying to find out a bit more about what engine it has in it (as well as anything else about it as I'm still real green on the old F-series...) and would appreciate any help or info you could give.

I crawled under it today and pulled the stamp from the block:

C2AE 60150
(if I read everything right... so much crud on it and CA fobids the use of any cleaners save a paper towel so it wasn't the easiest to read... let me know if that sounds incorrect for any reason....)

and that leads me to believe its a 292 from what else I've read here... so I guess I'm looking to find how I can confirm that, and how I can determine if its the original (as the guy said when I purchased it...) etc...

There are a few pics of the engine in the gallery if that's of any use, or post back any additional info I should grab and I'll take a look...

Thanks in advance...

John

The C2AE casting # was used on ALL 1962-64 cars and light trucks and yes it is a 292.
There is no way to determine originality, they werent serialized nor coded to the degree of GM and others for # matching.

But if memory serves correctly, the castings were date coded, so if the date on the block is consistent with the vehicle assembly date, you've probably got an original. The Ford Y block (Eickman (I know I spelled that incorrectly) has location of date casting info I recall.

Are they actually date coded like the 8BA style flathead or is it just a year code? I dont know as Ive not got to that level with Y Blocks. If so where are they and what is the "code"?
Early Y's had several casting ID's even in one year to denote the original application. The late years lumped them all into one as the Y was not high on Ford's list by then.

From the pictures you have I can tell you that the engine block and intake/carb may be original but those Thunderbird valve covers were added as well as the passenger car exhaust manifolds. It could be that a 292 from a car was dropped in but can't tell for sure. Also the aircleaner is not original. Those valve covers are worth about $300 when cleaned up.
