So last summer I overhauled my 1980 300 I6. Took out the A/C and all the emissions stuff, save the charcoal can for the fuel return. Otherwise the thing is cherry. That is until last week I noticed a serious lack in power, and it was getting worse. I thought it was a vacuum leak, everything checked out. I replaced the carb, twice, still did the same thing. Finally it died all together. I assumed I had warped the manifolds or blew a gasket, so I broke em down and sure enough, they were leakin right below the throttle body, the intake and the exhaust. I replaced the gaskets, and reinstalled the manifolds, as they were still good. She's running again now, but still havin to keep her rich as hell just to get down the road, and on hills she just stands there. Fire comin outta the carb, dieseling, the whole bit. I cant figure it out. Anybody else know anything about this EGR stuff? Did I do something stupid? HELP, I NEED TO GET TO WORK!
I had an increasing little skip and lack of power, run a compression check and you might find that your exhaust valves are leaking, the repair isn't too expensive, hard chrome valve seats from a shop.
If you think you might have a vac leak, let it idle a bit and then run water over the gasket area, watch for steam from the exhaust. I've had a warped manifold that
gave me all kinds of headaches.
I doubt your timing would jump, gear driven and all, check your ignition timing.
