Transfer Case Question
Hello All, I am new to this group. I am currently not an Ex owner but will be in the future but I have a question first. I've been to the dealer and test drove one the other day and was wondering if the 4x4 had an optional manual shift instead of SOF (shift on the fly). I asked the dealer but the only thing he could tell me is that "shift on the fly is the only way to go". I, on the other hand, would rather have the manual shift for reliability. Thanks in advance. Its been interesting reading this group. Dave

thats strange, i have a 2000 x that has sof and manual hubs, from the factory. if u look at the front hubs u'll see where it says auto(sof), and manual. just switch the pointer to what u want. i was fold by a ford tec. that if for some reason u loose vacume to u're front hubs and it won't shift in to 4 wheel, just go out and turn the pointer to manual.

Transfer Case Question
All ESOF equipped trucks (SD & Ex.) come with a manual override on the hubs. Their use and reason have been discussed many times here on the boards.
They will not engage your tranfer case, only the hubs in the event you;
1. Lose vacuum.
2. Are already stuck and cannot roll forward.
3. Want to feel better about having 4WD when you most need it.
