CEL Code Help
I bought a truck a few days ago. The owner said the CEL comes on sometimes, but I havnt seen it on yet. I've driven about 500 miles in it since I bought it. Out of curiosity I plugged in my code reader and pulled these two codes:
P0670
P0683
Can anyone help explain, diagnose, and help me fix this?

Those are GPCM codes, so the fact you live in California that is a system specific to Excursions and Cali trucks.
It could be as simple as a loose connector, but more than likely a bad GPCM.
Take a look at this

Sounds like I need to take it to the dealership then? I finally did get the CEL to come on today and checked and it was those codes.

A GPCM is around a $130, I think I would look at just buying one before I paid a dealer to look at it and replace it for $300+

Online junk yards or ebay.
The GPCM is the same one used on the 6.0's so don't limit your search.
I have a used one from a 6.0 in my truck right now because mine failed last year.
The dealership will rape you on these. It takes all of 15 to 20 minutes to unbolt, unplug, remove, and install the new one.

The truck is still lighting up the CEL every few days. I havent replaced the GPCM yet, but it stopped throwing the P0670 code and now is only showing P0683. Does anyone know exactly what P0683 means?

That site says its for "Reserve for Glow Plug Number 10". Pretty sure I dont have a v10 Diesel. Which begs the question. Why dont I?! Ford needs to get on the V10 Diesel!

P0683 is GPCM glow plug control module communication line failure. It is explained in the link I provided in the second post.

If you check the circuits out and find no issues, than yes a new GPCM should fix it.
