I just got my 350, but did quite a bit of research on the different grilles/inserts available. Although I like the look of the 1/2" tubes better than the billets, I found several out there. Most are bolt-on inserts that don't require any cutting (they seem to be getting away from that). The full replacement grilles are out there, but they are high $$$. Unless there's something wrong with your grille that causes it to need replacing, I'd suggest looking more into the bolt-ons. Mine's a Putco. They do have billet grille bolt-ons that require no drilling or cutting. You can see how they look at the bottom of this page.
You can check out mine in my gallery. I don't think it's exactly what you're looking for, but it may give you some ideas. I got mine through my Ford dealer, but I don't think it's a Ford part. It's made by CloudRider.
It took about 10 mins to put on, and it's rated for all seasons (doesn't really decrease air flow), though the guy told me I may want to consider taking it off if I planned on any heavy towing.
It was cheap too, around $90 CAN if I remember correctly.
As far as blocking air goes , i wouldn't worry about it too much.
I had my winter screen/air blocker behind my factory grille on yesterday and it was around 65 outside - and the truck ran fine. And that was with almost the entire grille being blocked.
Their is no way - an aftermarket grille - could cause engine overheating/bad performance - ESPECIALLY on a turbo-charged diesel motor....
I am going to buy that grille from Ford tommorrow and simply monitor the trucks performance like I always do. If there is a problem, then I can simply remove the bolt-on installation.
Take it easy!

I think that Stull makes one. If not APC makes one that will fit a Stull grill. Comes either in Chrome or paint to match. I does look a little different though. Does not have the center bars. Looks
I just put a new grill on mine this weekend. It is made by street scene, I got the one for the excursion instead of for the 250. the excursion one is one piece which I liked better. I'm very happy with the way it looks, I believe it costs around $150.
I had the Ford grill on my 2001 7.3 for two years and my temp gauge never showed anything but normal even when pulling a travel trailer. I took it out when I traded for a 2003 6.0 but did not put it on the new truck yet. I also noticed in the Ford Accessories catalog they say this grill is only for a gas engine truck. I thought it might have something to do with the new 6.0L motor. When I ordered this grill from the accessories catalog in 2001 it did not say for gas trucks only and neither do the installation instructions mention anything of this. It could be just my grill but I noticed some of the others fill the frame of the original grill better. They seem to go all the way to the chrome edge of the original grill and mine leaves about a 3/8" gap at both ends. Does anyone know when Ford started specifying this grill for gas engines only?
