I have a 58 F100 donor pickup that has a v8 engine. The exhaust manifold runs in front of the engine from one side to the other. What engine do I have.
Hi,
Sounds like one of the originally equipped Y-block V-8's.
There were mainly two, but actually three different V8engines used for 1958 model year light duty truck.
The early 1958's came with a 272 V8.
About mid-production year, they switched to the 292 V8.
During this change, When supply shortages of the 292 occured, some 312's were installed.
All three of these engines shared the same block.
The 4th character of your truck's vin number is the engine code and will tell you what you have if original.
