I drove 85 miles, kept it under 65mph.....And it was roughly 70/80% city, rural curvy road driving, and roughly 30% straight sections of road, and a few miles of parkway driving...Again, kept it under 65mph....
Filled up for 4.8xx gallons of fuel.....Which equates to 17.708 MPG.....Now, how can this be?

P.S-
The truck has had-
-New Tires
-New brakes front/rear
-Tranny/rear differential fluids changed
-New plugs (Gapped to .44) wires, dizzy cap, etc
-Alignment job, and new steering components from new balljoint to new balljoints...
-Oil change
-Bed tarp added
-Factory hood removed, and a fiberglass one replaced it
-Engine seafoamed 3 times, and added to crankcase
-About 2 bottles of Shell brand injector cleaner per fillup on gas...
And IIRC, every 100lbs, it equates to approx. 1% better fuel economy.....So the hood really helped....which lends me to think I have about the best fuel economy possible out of a 2wd, SCLB combo....With 300/5 speed....
But idk....Gonna test my CAI setup to try to squeeze 1 more mpg out of this lil beast....lol
Mine does something kind of like that. Usually 2-3 times a month I will drive up to our camping/hunting property. I top off when I leave town and fill up when I get there, it's a 65 mile drive station to station, one way-all 55 mph backroads. It takes 4 gallons to fill up when i get there if I fill up as soon as I get there. I know my truck doesn't do quite that well on gas, (93 F250 460 4x4 5spd.) If I let it sit for 30 minutes or so before I refill it I can usually pump in between 5 and 5.5 gal before pump clicks off. Don't know why it does it but it can mess with your mileage calculations. Our gas has the 10% ethanol.
Guess you dont have me beat anymore in the MPG arena.
But seriously, the further you drive, the more accurate your calculations will be. With so few miles driven, you could have simply gotten more fuel in your tank on the second fill-up.
I would have to get out the papers but I believe the past few weeks my '94 has been getting 17mpg on e10. 300, E4oD & not sure about the rear end yet. Transmission still shifts hard & late.
I about crapped my pants last night when I was figuring the last 2 weeks mileage up. 31.09mpg. Knew it wasnt possible cause my wife's car only gets 25-28. Then I remembered that I wrote it down in a different place.

That is probably a valid number for what amounts to a snapshot in the bigger picture... assuming your odometer is accurate. Do that again for a bunch more tanks of gas over various driving conditions and average them all together and you'll have a better idea of the overall fuel consumption. FWIW my truck got similar milage strictly highway with the cruise set at 70mph.. with a 5.8 under the hood!
I just discovered and fixed a wiring problem that has been causing all sorts of drivability issues with the truck these last few months and the average fuel milage improved from about 12 to 15.8mpg for a combination of city/rural highway driving... and that's from a 5.0. All these trucks should be able to return that kind of milage IMO, as long as you don't have the fuel transfer problem, there are no EFI issues, and the speedo/odometer is accurate for whatever size tires are on the vehicle.
