E4OD Problem..

So I am trying to figure out what is wrong with this thing. It's a 92 F150, i6, 4x4, E4OD 240,000 miles. In drive it feels like its under load and the engine just revs and slowly moves the truck till it feels like it "engages." But if I am in first its solid, feels like full power. Put it in second to start from a stand still and it revs and feels like a slight shutter into into first. Going up a steep hill (14% grade) in second it really shutters, but nothing in first, solid again.

So you start in first from a stand still it feels fine, then **** it into second while you're driving and it feels like it goes into a lul and will engage after a 30 seconds or so. I should note that driving into the the wind (nevada wind) can't break 50 with a 30mph head wind. Gas mileage is about 12 when it used to be 18.

Sounds like a torque converter is trying to take a crap....

Have you changed the filter and fluid?
