Yeah, for an SD truck where you don't have to waste the time and money to convert everything else over to run ONE turbo. And even as good as the 38R is, a T4 mounted turbo will flow the same with less back pressure, which means better performance. Too bad you're too dense to realize that even though its been explained to you eleventy billion times already.

Maybe it's cheaper for him and he already has some of the parts or can get them cheap

Eleventy billion huh?

Wow, thats a big number.

Guess all those guys running the 38r are a bunch of idiots too huh?

38r is actually not the cheapest turbo setup for the OBS's due to it requiring SD parts.

The T4 setup is a great setup too.
It allows for a customizable turbo you can put together yourself.
But it also requires you to know far more about turbo's than any of us in here know about turbo's.

If you could find specs and flow charts for the ones you want and understand how the fuel effects them depending on what injectors your running with exhaust, blah blah blah, then it would make a difference.

But, I'm not shooting for 800 horse power either,

H2E and 38r are great setups for our trucks, they are tried and proven to work. Super duty or not.

Oh, since this is a tuning thread.
The tuning for a t4 setup would be different as well.

I can call a guy up and have him send me tunes for a 38r, but if I have some fancy *** t4 setup, probably have to have it live tuned (which is big bucks) to get it working good.

I can't think of anyone off hand, except maybe 1 guy, running a 38R on an OBS. Some E99 SD guys will do it, and for a mild upgrade the 38R is a fine turbo. I've never said otherwise. I just don't think its cost effective to convert an OBS to run a 38R when you could buy a T4 mount from Murff or Irate and have several choices of turbo to run that will perform better than a 38R. Are the guys running 38R's on 99.5-03 SD's idiots? No, for that truck and a mild build a 38R is fine, you only have to buy a turbo and nothing else. For an E99 or OBS truck, I don't see that the juice is worth the squeeze to convert over to a late SD setup and run a 38R but to each his own.

Yes, to get the most out your mods you'll want to let your tuner know what you are running so they can set the tunes up accordingly. Jody's been at it long enough that he has probably worked on tunes for different turbo setups before and shouldn't have a problem getting you dialed in.

Joey, Jim and Clay are all running 38r's with an OBS or e99.

And I know more becides them.

It's a reliable ball bearing turbo thats good for at least 480 hp.
No guess work in matching up intake a/r's with exhaust a/r's and blah de blah blah blah.

Only turbo upgrade you dont much need new tunes for is the d66.

You know Chase, it sure is nice to have a man on here with your vast knowledge and a diplomatic way of expressing it. If I'm ever wrong on any subject you be sure to set me straight. I'm just very disappointed that I have to express my opinion thru a keyboard and not to your face!!

FWIW I have a 38R and love it, and I didn't buy anything else to mount it. I got the turbo brand new for a great price, and added length to my stock up-pipes and re-used the OBS housing. Might no be the best set-up around, but it's fun to drive.

And yea, ANY injector and/or turbo change should really have the appropriate tuning to match.

I'm guessing you had or sourced an SD pedestal as well?
