You didn't say what has been done to the truck at the dealer(s) but your description is classic cam position sensor crap out. The cam position sensor most times won't give an ECM code.
You are the ONLY person who even brought that up.. So how much does something like this cost. since i'm sure warantee and even extended warantee doesnt cover this! As far as I know the dealers couln't get codes thus they told me they didn't find anything wrong even though the truck wouln't start for them either and all the other problems.. So monday I'll bring the truck back in and have them check this CAM position sensor... If it's not too expensive i'll just have em thow one in? Thanks so much for writing back so quick on this
Joe beat me to the diagnosis. On my truck, the Cam Position Sensor, or CPS only cost $86, if you buy it from International. From Ford, it'll cost you about twice that. Installation is a 10 minute job, and requires only basic hand tools.
Quadzilla is quite right. Get one from International and put it in your self, especially since they've already proven themselves to be incompetent. It is located on the front cover and has the timing indicator attached to it.
I also found it easiest to get to the bolt by using a 2" socket extension and work from the front of the serpentine belt, rather than try to get in behind it.

Shortly after I bought my 350 PSD, I swore I'd never buy another Ford because of the lack of quailty machanics at the dealers. If the computer doesn't tell them what's wrong, they're lost... They're not even called machanics anymore, they're "technicans"....
You will find more knowledgeable, "seat of the pants" true machanics in this forum than you will ever find at a dealer. I admit, I must exclude myself.. It's easier to get to meet with the Pope than to get to talk with a Ford regional service rep. ..My truck wouldn't start all the time and I took it to dealers in Az. and Texas and they couldn't fix it... I, and a buddy of mine, with only one twelve pack of beer, figured it out to be weak batteries... I've been lucky, other than poor fuel mileage, I've had no more problems in two years.... I still like my PSD.......... Good luck with your problem.....
I believe the cam position sensor is covered by the 100,000 warranty, at least a guy I work with had his covered this way. It might save to pay the $100.00 deductable rather than spend $80.00 for a part that might not fix it. Hope this helps.
