aerostar questions

Hi,

I am on my second Aerostar, (this one is a 1993 awd), and both have developed leaky roofs.

I sealed the welded seam along the edge with silicone and that helped a lot.

I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem and what they might have done about it.

Secondly, does anyone know where I can get owners manual maintenance info on the web. This van doesn't have a manual and I need to get fluid change intervals and timing chain change intervals.

Thanks
Jan de Groot

A Haynes manual gives all the maintenance intervals - $12 at any parts store. I'd expect that engine to have a timing belt instead of a chain...

My wife got a used '92 Aerostar with 27,000 miles on it back in in 1995. First rain we had a leak coming in on the passengers knee (Now I know why they were selling this otherwise perfect Aerostar so cheap). It was dripping from above the windshield (slightly in from the corner as I recall). After many frustrating days and two visits to a crummy auto glass place it was determined to be a body seam leak (which they were not prepared to deal with). Took it back to the Ford dealer and they jobbed it out to a different glass place who repaied the body seam leak for $60. Has never leaked since.

Also, the 3.0 and 4.0 V6s should have timing chains. (Older Aeros had timing gears for the 2.8 V6 and belt for the 4 banger, but we are way before 1993 on those).

Did you see there is an Aerostar forum on this site? You may get more responses there as Aerostar postings are rare on this forum. Either way, were glad to try to help.
