Kyle1973F1004x4's Build!

Hi guys, my name is Kyle and this is my build. I own a 1973 F100 4x4, when I first picked it up the guy told me it was a crate motor 390. I soon found out later that it was not a crate motor 390.
The truck ran fine up until i got it back into my town, then everything went downhill from there. It was running terrible and was dumping out white smoke on the drivers side exhaust, then it finally died where I coasted into a chevron. Got out opened the radiator cap... No pressure. So imediately I thought the headgasket blew on that side. From there my dad pulled me home in my moms Hyundai Santa Fe.
Thats when the fun began.
Truck when I got it home. It used to be a hydraulic dump flatbed, but I have sold that and bought a regular bed.

Took out the sparkplugs to find this...

So I got to work and tore the top end off the motor to find this..

Cracked cylinder wall and metal pieces on top of my pistons. Thats why it is pitted to hell and looks all new like.
Metal pieces found in my cylinders ontop of pistons.

So winter came shortly after this.. Truck sat for a while till I dug it out from the snow.

Then I got the truck in my garage where I began taking the motor out.

I measured the stroke and it turned out that this motor was a 360 not a 390.
Rolled the truck back outside.

Found an actual 390 for my truck.

Then It sat for a little longer. Broke a exhaust manifold bolt off in my head, so I had to get it out. I broke 2 easy outs trying to get it out. I finally just drilled it out completely.
Then I started taking care of my interior. Took out the seat.

My Old inner fenders where ****ty, so I bought some in better shape.

Part 2

Took my old ones out.

Then I put my new ones in.

Then I put my new 7 degree C bushings in. Let me tell you that was fun! lol

Then I bought a new clutch and got my flywheel resurfaced.

From there My truck sat outside some more waiting for my engine.

Cleaned up the frame and mounts in the engine bay.

I also cleaned up my frame and put the straps for the gask tank on and sanded and painted the gas tank.

I also cut off extra metal they welded onto the frame for the hydraulic flatbed it had on it.

I then started to put my new engine in.

Part 3

Then I took off the valve covers and 2 barrel intake, and put on my Holley valve covers and Edelbrock street master 390 intake with the Edelbrock 4 barrel carb.

Then I got her running! She ran a little rought at first but the timing was off, so once I fixed that she now runs a lot better!
After I drove her around for the first time

Recent engine pic.

Here is my bed I picked up for $50

Hope you guy's enjoyed it! I will try and update as much as possible. Thanks for looking!

Impalaslayer - I too also try to clean up as much stuff as I can, I would like this truck to look somewhat decent when I'm done with it

That's a sweet truck your building and a nice build thread you got going now. Where are you located out of curiousity? Also wondering what size lift and tires that thing has.

Nice project and lots of good pics. Thanks.

I do have one question though:

Love all the pics, I'm subscribing to see the rest.

Poison, how can you tell that's a Comet and not a Maverick? By the Tail lights? When I saw it I thought Maverick.
