1947 ford engine swap

I was wandering what kind of engine would be easy to swap into my 1947 ford shortbox (flat head 8 and 4 speed tranny). Would a 302 from a 70's ford truck fit and would it bolt to the origninal tranny? I also see lots of people have 350 chevys in them, Do these fit well? And does anyone no where you can buy motor mounts to swap in either of these engines? Thanks

You can do pretty much anything that you want with a torch and a welder but I wouldnt put a Chevy Engine in my Ford.

The only bolt in engines I am aware of are other year flathead V8s, and small block chevys. There used to be kits that came with a bell housing and front plate for the chevy. You had to run an electric fuel pump. You should be able to find the parts still. I know the bell housing is still made, the plate for the front motor mounts that goes behind the water pump should be findable as well.

I'd stick with a flathead Ford.

I can tell you that a 392 Hemi bolts in so neat it looks like Henry planned it that way!

I think it's a 'front pan/rear pan issue' with the 302 and the chev small block. I put a 302 in a ford 1 1/2 ton, but way more clearance at the front axle than the 1/2 ton. Different pans could be available though.
