Question C6 Big Block, Small Block or FE?

I have a 78 Bronco with a 351M and a C6. I am looking for a different transmission in local junkyards. Could you guys please shine some light on what I am looking for. So you have told me the 351M is a small block but I have heard the bellhousing is an FE type. What do I ask for big, small block C6 or FE type C6.

And if anyone lives in MO where can I get a 4x4 C6 the guys at the local junkyards either want alot or just laugh at me.

Thanks
Greg (a.k.a. The Tree)

Greg, the 351M/400 has a "big block" 429/460 bellhousing. I imagine these are getting harder and harder to find in junkyards. Are you looking for one to change out with yours? An alternative would be to rebuild the one you have. That way you know it will last. Sometimes a 25 year old parts yard transmission isn't worth dragging home.....

www.jeffsbroncograveyard.com has them, but shipping will be a bear.

for 1 you would be crazy to look for anything but a c6 it is the best and strongest trans out there so your best bet is to rebuild it. whats wrong with the one you have any way.

My transmission is slipping between 1st and 2nd, I have to let off the gas if I want to shift. I was hoping to find another so I could take all the time to rebuild that I wanted, seeing as how I have not rebuilt one before and not sure that I can.

C6 Big Block, Small Block or FE?

Just go the the junkyards and find another C-6 for a 4x4 truck with the Big block bolt pattern. They seem to be a pretty common find around here, in KC, but you know how it goes.
The only other transmissions that would be easily installed (hence easily, there are of course other options) is a T-18 and NP435.
I would suggest the C-6 myself, it is a very very good transmission, im going with a T-18 in my 1978 Bronco myself, but thats just because I like to drive manual transmissions.

Good luck
