Thought I'd be nice and pick up my daughter from school today and ran over a boulder in my X which caused a huge leak in my radiator. New radiator on order and need some help.
I know that they capacity is 27 1/2 quarts for completely dry unit but I should have some in the engine correct? It is just leaking out the bottom support on the pass. side.
So here's my question:
I saw a post on the proper way to flush it but do I really need to flush it completely if I'm just switching out the radiator? I have it completely flush a year ago.
Stewart, I finally found ELC and it comes in 6 gallons/case only. Do I need concentrate or the mix? I'm assuming the concentrate per your other post for a flush and yes mine is a 6.0 diesel.
It was the dealer that flushed it when the head gasket was repaired. So no telling what they used. I'm sure the cheap stuff. Can I use Chevron DELO concentrate be mixed with 50/50 for the 3 quarts I'll need?
You do want to mix coolants. If the dealer did the flush, they probably used the Ford gold. You need to find out for sure what they used and then top off with the same mixed to a 50/50 concentration.

You can, but you'll be wasting the benefits of the ELC as it will be only as good as the Ford "Gold" coolant in your truck. Better to use the same coolant Ford used (the Ford "Gold" is a Hybrid ELC) and just top it off, or just do a complete engine back-flush and refill with Chevron Delo ELC.

If you do a complete back-flush per Gooch's directions I posted in my Coolant Flush and Information thread, then you will use the concentrate coolant, NOT the 50/50 mix.
So what's up with the tranny lines that run underneath? Special tool to get them out? Once I got the fan shroud disconnected, it appears that the only thing holding it is the tranny lines. The radiator looks like it would then just slide up and out.
