Is it just me or does it seem like it goes into regen mode right before your destination ( Today I went to the office which is 50 miles away pretty much all interstate except the last 10 miles, and guess what it goes into regen 2 miles from my destination haha)
That happens to me also. I'd be on the freeway for the longest time where it has plenty of opportunity to regen efficiently just to have it start right after I exit the freeway. Annoying
Maybe the regen algorithm is trying to take advantage of the higher EGT's in freeway driving to do passive regens. Once EGT's drop in city traffic, it'll do an active regen if it still feels constipated.
I have had my F350 Kr CC since November. Put 9000 miles on it. Only way I ever knew it was Regen'ing was about a 10 second burst of White smoke out of the exhaust. Had to cycle the info system on the dash to even see the words "cleaning exhaust Filter".
This week I Towed my 8000# camper for the first time... about 175 miles each way. Both Going to the Beach, and returning, it went into filter cleaning, and the words " cleaning exhaust Filter" stayed up on the display until it finished. I was in Tow, Haul Mode.
My question is ..." Why was this the only time it said Cleaning Exhaust Filter on the Dash for the entire time is was cleaning??? Did it have to do with the Tow/haul Mode?
I might be wrong on this, so don't quote me--I read somewhere that with latest flash, the only time "Cleaning Exhaust" is displayed continuously is if you got a 'Drive to Clean Exhaust" message earlier. That means the filter is loaded more than the usual regen trip point and it hasn't been able to regen earlier due to various reasons.
According to Ford docs, it won't go into regen if there's not a minimum amount of fuel in the tank even if all the other conditions are right. (NOW, what does that say?!?! At least someone thought of that for our convenience!! LOL)
My most recent weirdness was another marathon regen. Normally, when I shut regen off by throwing the truck into park or neutral a couple miles away from my destination to let things cool off, or if I'm about to get stuck in stop-and-go traffic, the next regen starts approx 10miles for every mile I was in regen earlier.
This time, as soon as coolant temperature got hot, it went into regen until it completed by itself. Total regen time was 30minutes + a bunch of shutdowns and then another 20 minutes. Nothing more maddening than squirting fuel out the exhaust for over an hour :-(
The only thing different this time around was it's been over 600miles since my last full completed regen with a few incomplete regens since. But I don't remember recording anything like this earlier.

Not true on this. I have been down to less than 25 miles on a tank and mine went into regen.
The white smoke is normal after the truck gets broken in per Ford. I no longer have this issue since I took the damn thing off after my third sensor had to be replaced and I changed my oil immediately afterward to find an extra 1/2 gallon of oil (fuel) than there should have been. I cant wait to see what happens on the new trucks since the exhaust systems are similar.
I'm so glad I got rid of all that crap. I don't miss regens one bit. Truck runs better and people don't give me dirty looks after smoking them out in traffic.
It is a couple of bolts on the downpipe and an exhaust clamp. fairly simple to do but it is not a simple R & R as some people say it is in here. It is about an hour or so to do but removing and putting it back on for the dealer just isnt practical. It also requires that you damage the stock exhaust clamp to put the delete pipe on so the dealer will know either way.
You also have to put a tuner on if you did not know that already.
As for the smog test, we have emissions here and mine has passed without the DPF on. I am not sure that this works in every state so you may have to put it back to stock to get it to pass and then just take it off again.
Here in San Jose, they look specifically for the CAT, DPF and EGR valve. Immediate fail if any are missing. Then its a 3 snap test to look for smoke. $40 for 5 minutes of 'work'.
If your in California, you definitely need to put it back to stock. They are the worse state for this. We still get away with things up here in Washington. Our outlying counties do not need to do an emissions test at all. Just near SEattle.
