I have a noise also, sound like coming from rear of cab area. only on light-moderate throttle acceleration. goes away once you let off throttle. thought about rebuilding rear end with new carrier, just do want to reset up the rear end... mine is on a 2005 f250 6.0L CCSB
This sounds like a pinion bearing or a gear wear pattern issue, not likely a t-case bearing as they are not a tapered roller so it will not be affected by a load change (noise would be constant). It is possible that a siezed ujoint can apply undesired load on the pinion creating a change in pinion to crown gear contact resulting in a noise, but it would have to be severe and the pinion bearings are likely starting to fail at that point as well. Throughout my years in the industry 9 out of 10 will be a differential noise if it comes and goes with throttle application.
My 2008 5.4l is humming with acceleration as well. Soon after the rear diffwas spewing oil but all that needed to be replaced was the pinion seal. Was not told the pinion bearing are damazed yet... most likely a seized ujoint then?
Re:humming noise.
check the fuel filter. It is located right under the drivers door. Mine has started doing the humming thing, right after replacing the filter.
