A Close Shave

I read an article about the cost of razor supplies. Switch To Old-School Safety Razors And Save $160 A Year - The Consumerist
It got me to wondering about how much we are spending on shaving.
I use Barbasol shaving foam in the can, at the cost of about a $1.00 a can.
For a razor I use Bic disposable twin blades at a cost of $0.22 each.
I get somewhere around 15 shaves from each razor.
I have a closely trimmed beard and shave around it every 3-4 days.
My cost is less than $6.00 a year.

Wild guessing from memory since I buy a bunch and then don't need any for a long time...

I buy those triple blades for my Gillette. Seems to works as well as the twin blades and I haven't noticed a difference with the five blade types.

The triples cost something like $20 for a 10 pack. I get a month of shaves out of them. Don't get me wrong, I have a tough beard, my barber tells me so. What I do is clean the blades really well after each use. There are You Tube videos on cleaning the blades. Essentially After shaving I rinse and while rinsing, I stroke my thumb against the blades backwards. This helps remove scum etc from the blade. Then I "strop" the blade backwards against my jeans or even my underwear. Seems to work.

I shave probably 20 days out of the month with the razor, and the rest with an electric, or no shave at all.

I use either Berts Bees shaving soap or a can of whatever is cheap. The foam does seem to work better than the soap. I would guess I go thru a can of shave cream maybe every year or two. You only need little, None of that billowing foam all over your face. Just a nice even thin layer.

So wild guess is that I spend about $25 per year to shave. Thank heavens I haven't fallen for the blade race where more is better. Three is probably bad enough.

Well y'all might laugh at this but...I don't buy razors for myself. My wife gets those pink lady razors for herself and I use them as well. Hell, they come like 100 to a bag for like $10! I don't use shaving cream or foam; I just soap up with the Ivory soap we use for bathing and shave in the shower. Got an electric for during the week and use the pink ones on Sunday night before I go back to work on Monday.

Works just fine, and I spend less than $20 a year.

I`m like Jim Henderson, I clean the blade after every use but I use a small little brush that came with my clippers. 2 fusions last me all year of shaving every other day.

I've been using the disposable razors for several years. Since I don't take care of them they don't last for that many shaves, but for what a electric razor costs now I can afford to buy a lot of disposables and shaving cream.

I have a beard. I've had the same $30 trimmer for three years, so I guess my shaving costs are about $10 a year-

I have a beard also, but I do shave about thirty percent. I use hair conditioner instead of shaving cream. I can see better trimming around the edges and it works as well as anything. Cost? I get it from hotels... so it seems like it's free. And I use the Bic throwaways and they last, esp when cleaned and rinsed well. Maybe $3 or $4 buck a year.

Since I'm just a mailman, I shave once a week. I get myself cleaned up Saturday night before taking my bride out to dinner.

I suspect I spend less than $10.00 per year on shaving supplies.

Thanks Bruce! It's kinda funny since I was a daily shaver in the Coast Guard and when I retired, I ran a restaurant for about 18 months and had to shave daily as well. I Loooooove not having to scrape my face everyday.
