Fuel milage
Hey guys, why would my 96 obs 7.3 be only getting 14 mpg on the hwy? One thing I was wondering is that the turbo wastegate or whatever is noisy as hell when its cold out. And it takes away some power too. Can I take that valve/gate out? Another thing about the truck is when I bought it, it sat for a year. And it smoked like hell for a few weeks. I ran some power service in two tanks and took a highway trip in it and it cleared up the smoke a lot. Ran better and everyting. I wonder if I had a injector clogged up a bit. And maybe it's still not right so my mpg's are low because of that? I have a 3" downpipe and a riff raff intake fyi.

You pick up 7mpg in 5mph? No way. I can get up to 20, but at 55. 75, I get 17.
OP, that is the ebpv, you can disconnect it under the turbo on the drivers side, two wire plug. You can gut it too, lots of us have. What gears? 4.10's won't be as good as 3.55's if you're going very fast.

Sounds like 4.10 to me.
Here's where my mileage tends to be on highways unloaded:
at 70 I'll get 16-17 mpg
65, 17-18
I can have 2,500# in the bed and still get close to my empty highway fuel mileage. Usually I'm pulling a 30' gooseneck which drops it down to 9-12.5
