On my 97 f-250 diesel, I have been haveing a roaring sound in the front diff. when I have the hubbs locked in. The faster you go the louder it gets. It doesnt have to be locked into 4 wheel drive. The 4x4 system works just fine with no problems. I had a mechanic look at it and he said it really wasnt anything to worry about. I have replaced all of the u-joints and it didnt help. I just want to make sure that it isnt going to leave me stranded. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I will say that when I drive with the hubs locked in there is no perceived difference in how the truck sounds or feels. I drive most of the winter with the hubs in, and any time I think I may need 4wd (like heading for the tractor path at the farm after a good rain, etc.).
