Im working from memory, but I believe they were the RS999278. For a 2002 Excursion. The 272's are on back order.
Confirmed, the 278's. I'll still post some pics in a few, have to run to the VET to get my animals real quick first.
So no parts pack with this shock, so nothing lost if the cardboard package was damaged. It should have cross pins in them upper and lower mounts.
Hope this helps a bit.
No sticker either? PM coming. Tried to PM you don't seem to be able to receive them.
This is what I would do. Return them. You should have a sticker in there as well.
The cross pin isn't coated but that seems to be a bit more rust for a new shock.
Also looking at my catalog it says cross pin for the top and bottom.
Only see the one.
Thanks!
The 278 (rear) only has the shock & red boot (and the rancho decal).
The 272 (front) also have bushings/caps/etc. that go on the top stem
(and the rancho decal).
Good luck.
Do you recall if the rear (278) come with cross pins top AND bottom?
That is what my records show, unfortunately, I don't have one of every shock we make. Thanks
Cool!
Only one cross pin. Good to know down the road. Often times people buy with cross pins and pull them out for various applications. Will also let the guys who do the catalog so that they can (hopefully) update. Thanks

There is a decal in the bag, but it was stuffed down near the bottom and i had to look for it to see it. It was easier to find in the second one.
So then, it seems the only problem then is the rust? I can just hit it with a wire wheel, cant I? Am I going to use the crosspin in the installation?
Or do you still recommend I return it?
Yeah, you will be using the crosspin for the top mount on the rears. I don't think that amount of surface rust on the crosspins is an issue, just kinda disappointing on an expensive shock. You could just clean em up and hit em with some paint or never-sieze before mounting if you don't return them for a fresher pair.
I just wanted to say I had great success with the rs9000 shocks when they first came out in my 91 Bronco w/ 4" rancho lift. I had 6 shocks with the in cab controller and the whole set up lasted the 10yrs i had it without any issues before selling it. I really want a new set up now.
I purchased a Hellwig sway bar from Amazon a couple of weeks aago and installed it in a couple of hours. Noticed a improvement right away.
This last Sunday (15) I ordered four rancho 9000xl shocks and a new steering stablizer from 4wheelonline. I was suprised today when the Fed Ex man showed up with my new parts. Two days from order to receiving them! I installed them this afternoon and noticed a remarkable difference in them from my old shocks.
Now the big question is what does everybody set them for towing? I have a new 2012 Rockwood 3008W Windjammer tt. It weighs about 9000 loaded with a supposedly 850 lb tongue weight. I have not been across any scales yet to verify weights. I also have a Equal-i-zer 4 point WD hitch.
Quick update: Just got off the phone with them. They expect delivery this week, and expect me to get them next week or the week after. The guy on the phone was actually borderline rude about it. Not sure I'll be ordering from these guys again.
