I pulled my ESOF hubs last year when I got my 2000 F250 with 150k miles. I installed warn manual hubs. I don't know if I engage these monthly, but know I've engaged them at least 1/2 dozen times in the last year (driving in snow and playing in mud). Last week I locked the hubs, put it in 4x4 on the dash - and nuthin. The front axle spun, but not the front wheels.
Today I checked the hubs = locked left hub and can't turn the left front ujoint (the big ujoint right at the wheel). Locked the right hub and could still turn the rt front ujoint. I'm assuming my rt Warn manual hub is not working. Problem is, I can't seem to figure out how to take it out. Pulled all the little screws and the metal cap with the on/off ****, I see a little tang of a spring clip,. but can't figure out how to get it off. Once I get the clip off, I guess I can just pull the hub out, but what do I look at to figure out what's broken?
I just installed these exact hubs on my 03 you have to grab that little tang thing and pull it down toward the hub and then unwind it out of the grove its not like the snap ring that came out of the stock ones it is a very thin metal piece and It winds around in the grove like 3 times.
Thanks Pipes, I just got it figured out and the hub off. The hub has some dirty, sticky grease, but not much. It also came out in two pieces, well, three if you count the spring. I've got a large outer piece, a large spring, and a smaller inner piece, plus a small ring that looks like a smaller version of the big snap ring. The smaller ring was just loose behind the hub. Do I clean everything up, lube it and reinstall, or is the hub shot?
I took pics, but can't figure out how to post them.
