Oil pan gasket jinx?

Thanks again, hoping to have time next week to give it a try. Probably order the Summit gasket and see if I can get the pan off, if not then I will use the multi piece from AutoZone. About the oil pick up, can someone explain the recommended part to remove so it doesn't get clogged?

Thanks,
Tim

Oil pan gasket jinx?

The oil pick up is the tube and screen that extends from oil pump to oilpan. This will have to be unbolted and dropped into oilpan to facilitate oil pan removal.
Make sure the tube and especially the screen and inside of oil pan are clean before reassembly.
A bad pvc will can allow over pressurization and blow out soft gaskets like the pan gasket.

Oil pan gasket jinx?

If it is a cork or composition gasket I would pick up a can of Permatex High Tack spray adhesive. Clean all gasket surfaces, absolutely clean. Use alcohol or laceur thinner to remove all oil from surfaces. No oil allowed. Spray from a distance a VERY thin coat of High Tack on the surfaces and both sides of the gasket. I stress a very thin coat only. Let dry 10 min or so. Apply the gasket to engine. If the gasket is rubber or silicone, do not use adhesive. If the gasket is multi-piece, use adhesive only on the cork or composition pieces. Apply the end pieces first, then the rail pieces. Use high temp silicone or "form a gasket" in corners where gasket segments meet. Use thread sealer on any bolts that are not blind threaded holes. In my opinion, people screw up using adhesives on rubber pieces. If you are doing this from underneath it will be challenging. Tighten bolts 1/2 turn at a time once they start to contact the pan. Use a crossing over pattern or skip every other bolt as you go around and around. The trick is to bring the bolts up snug evenly so as to keep the gasket in position and not warp the pan. Do not exceed recommended bolt torque. Take some extra time to do it right. If you do all this right, it won't leak.

Oil pan gasket jinx?

Thanks for the excellent infor on the oil pan replace/ gasket leak. At least that's what I think is leaking... Looks like oils settling around oil pan and nut. So, we'll try the gasket replacement unless someone has another thought. thanks again

Oil pan gasket jinx?

If your going through the hassel of changing the gasket take a good look over the oil pan, these pans are not know for durability, they are very thin and rust out quick, look for any paint flaking there may be a pinhole somewhere in there. Also, from experience, clean the whole engine down with degreaser (at least the drivers side) there is a plate on that side, lifter galley, it can also leak and make it look like the pan is leaking. After replacing my pan and pan gasket twice i finally realized it wasn't the pan gasket in the first place
