Had zf 5 speed go bad , lost gears and limped home in fourth gear , clutch was performing normal , one month old clutch and slave cylinder in it. tranny acted like it was wanting to bind up , you could start it i a gear but when you let the clucth out it was having a quiet war with itself.
Rest of story and todays problem
Picked up a used 5 speed , supposedly good transmission , installed today , bled clutch , new fluid in the trans , mercon V , now the problem
Clutch disengages fine , can sit on slope and truck will roll free when engaged , can start truck in gear and truck will roll freely , gear works correctly when letting out clutch and engages trans , when started in neutral though I cannot put in gear , any gear. WTF . Do I have a bad transmission , or a damaged clutch from the prior trans , looked at it and did not see and damage to clutch , Did not hear anything bad when the other tranny failed.
Don't have a real good feeling on the guy I bought this from . But anyway
Recheck everything from the pad on the clutch pedal to the face of the throwout bearing on the clutch pressure plate. Look for cracked firewall, worn or missing bushings. Bent linkage, bulging lines, bad master/slave cylinders.
Look for correct clutch disc, and correct installation.
Look for cracks in bell, loose bolts, misalignments.
Look for issues with the input shaft and pilot.
Look for maybe more ideas from the next guy to read this.
