After putting it off all last summer and not needing it through the winter, I finally decided I wanted proper air conditioning. I followed Marvs step by step instructions SpringerPop's Compressor Clutch Air Gap and now have as good of AC as the day I bought it. It was so simple, I kick my self for not doing last year. Mine only had the one spacer and for me, simply removing it completely and using no spacer worked perfect. I finished off with .018 gap and it pulls in and drops out great.
Thanks again to SpringerPop for the write up and everything else you do for us here.
Did mine last summer. Dont remember what the gap was but it was huge. Something like .060. I was surprised that it was even pulling the clutch closed, but it wasnt kicking out either. Its good now.
I'll say "Thanks, Guys", but please remember that what I do is just organize on my site the ideas that I have gained here from others far more knowledgeable than I.
I have been blessed to be able to explain some things that aren't always clear, that's all.
Let the real credit go to those who came before me and did the "discovering".
Great to hear Barry, after thinking my compressor was shot, it wasn't and I decided to go out and do mine, ground down the only shim a bit and installed, about 0.20 gap now respectidly.. Thanks Pop for the info and Barry for getting me off the couch..good thing.. congrats on the 9000 posts Pop...
Couldn't agree more! I am super thankful for that write up and photos to help guide me along. I used that write up on my wife's truck a few weeks ago. She said to me. "Honey, I think my A/C is going out.". I went outside, took about 10 minutes and it's all fixed now
She thinks I am a genius but I reminded her the real genius move was joining and supporting FTE.
(I still think Pop's SPED mod is about the best idea ever. I have that on both trucks)
It's a gadget I put together that disables the engine from starting while allowing everything to look normal to someone attempting to surreptitiously take your truck. It's an easy-to-use "kill switch".
Notice I said easy-to-use. It's not-so-easy to build.
But Greg jumped in and built two of them, and at least a couple more guys have told me they did too.
