Dead Spot Please Help!

So I just recently put my fixed head and a new MSD distributor on the 400 of my 1979 F-150. I went back to college after spring break and only drove it once after fixing it. It has since sat for about a month and I just got home for Easter and drove it today. It has a major dead spot when I am driving down the rode and give it about 1/4 throttle. the spot is there until the tranny shifts down it seems like. It also pops and sputters sometimes if you stay in the dead spot. I hope someone has a suggestion because I need it tommorow to go back to college!

Ok so this is what I know... I put in the new MSD distributor and set the timing at about 8* BTDC. There was a major dead spot in acceleration so I advanced the timing (didn't have my timing light) until I thought it sounded good. The dead spot did seem to go away but it still doesn't feel right. Where should my timing be set at on the balancer? How do I completely time my engine? Any help is greatly appreciated as I am just a learn from reading guy. Thanks

The original distributor had vacuum advance, and centrifugal advance.

10 degrees BTDC is a Ford standard, but it varies with engine calibration from 6 degrees to 14 degrees BTDC.

Sounds like a timing curve problem. Have no experience with MSD so hopefully someone can chime in.
