If you have an extended warranty that will cover your cooling issues, take it to the dealer for warranty repair. The check engine light was probably due to an ECT, EOT delta. Even though the check engine light turned back off, the fault code is saved in the ECU and the dealer will use that to diagnose your truck. If not, change the thermostat yourself and reassess. IMO you are in need of an oil cooler based off your posts, but your ECT’s are the first concern. I cannot imagine ECT’s you are seeing without a load.
Happy Easter everyone! Well I changed the thermostat and I could watch it opening and closing around 190 for about 10 min then took it on the highway got it up to 70 -75 and went back up to the same temps as yesterday. DAMN IT!
Well like you guys said it was worth a try. I had the same temps 207 on the ect and 227-229 on the eot. I guess I will make the appointment with the dealer tomorrow.
I checked it when that wrench light came on and it didn't pick any codes up what so ever.
I forgot to get some exhaust gas test strips when I got the thermostat. I will test it tomorrow. But let me get this right and please tell me if Im wrong. If I do have exhaust gases in the coolant and Im not loosing any coolant Its the HG? But if Im loosing coolant is probably the EGR cooler? And I defiantly have a bad oil cooler do you all agree?

This is what worried me about the scangauge
Its probably got all the generic codes and not to many manufacture specific codes for the 6.0 in its programming IDK but for the money its still the best gauge out there IMO
yeah but what about my 22 degree and more spread in coolant and oil temps?
Iv been runing with a 20-25 degree spread for a year but mines a 2003 and the egr cooler was built better those first years. The new oil cooler going on in the next week or 2. getting more parts together. but I dont get that hot ect as you do your ect is about 17 degrees hotter
what year was yours
your coolant temp is just to high is there anything in the coolant bottle oil, black soot stuff??
Mine is an 05 with 57,800 on it and the coolant is good I just changed it when I bought it back in January but even back then the coolant wasn't that dirty I changed all the fluids in it so I new when everything was changed last. Maybe I have a bad censor because the fan isn't kicking on until the temp is around 210-215
I lean towards an actual cooling problem then a sensor. Much like ljutic ss stated either the radiator or the water pump. The reason I say this is, if the ECT sensor was giving you a false high reading then your EOT would show a temperature lower than the ECT. Since they are both reading high then your temperature is high. It is HIGHLY unlikely that both sensors have failed the same way at the same time. If you do not want to take it in for warranty repair I would call a radiator shop and talk to them about checking out you radiator if you brought it in to them. If there were no restrictions in the radiator then the most likely cause would be the water pump.
Well tested the coolant for exhaust gasses today and it came back clear so thats good I guess. I called the dealer and they cant get me in till next week which sucks but they said not to drive it because those temps are defiantly a problem. I will keep you guys updated when they find the problem.
Well here is an update on my truck. The dealer called last night and said they were able to look at my truck and they said I have a leaking head gasket. They did a pressure test and the pressure was over 20 and a normal reading is around 15-16. They also said they think the oil cooler is leaking and they are going to re-seal it, but wont know for sure until they can get it apart on Monday.
