your trans is in "limp" mode. the computer is reading an error code in the trans. i sugest taking it to a dealer or to a shop with a diagnostic tool to see what needs fixed.

I have the same problem. Is the light blinking in a random, and sporatic manner or is it on and off continuously. I posted a few weeks back about mine flashing intermittently (off sometimes for a while, and then flashing and quite intermittent) and received a reply that it was probably just a loose connection or bad bulb. It is probably a better question for the folks in the trani forum, but if anyone can clarify what type of flashing a trani sending codes will give on that little column shifter light, it may help.
Mine shift and drives fine both in OD and locked out, so I haven't done much about it except wonder ???

It's not an AOD - it's an E4OD (or possibly a 4R70W). If you pull the codes from the engine computer, they should tell you what's up with the transmission.

i had that problem around '94. Luckily it was still under warranty. The dealership just replaced the whole shifter stock. No problem since. God bless Henry Ford.
