Hauling rates...
I haul boats with my Hydraulic pad trailer and my F450. And i know the going rates for that, and i dont tow them very far. However, i had an older guy swing through my shop last year and asked me if im interested in hauling a 2009 27' Camping trailer to Pennsylvania. Its 410 miles each way. Now id prob haul it with my F250, once i install the D60. So i called a buddy of mine who hauls things for a living, boats, campers, trailers, etc. He said he charges 5.00 a loaded mile. Which is around $2100. So i figured id do it for 3 bucks a mile....Am i wayy to ex*****ve? Its like $1300. And what should i bring? Spare tire of truck, lug wrench, and a jack? Let me know what ya guys think!
God help you if you get in an accident and you don't have the proper insurance coverage. Maybe since you already haul boats you are set-up with coverage? If so it'd be a step in the right direction.
I have a cousin that is an independant hauler. He says those jobs pay $1.50 - $2.00 a mile 1 way. He won't touch them. No money in campers, cars, etc, soooo many guys with pick-ups looking to make a few hundred dollars a week just cut out any kind of real profits.
You can haul for cheap when you don't pay for the proper licensing and insurance.
Good luck in your decision.
