My 92 Bronco has the pushbutton 4WD setup, but I'm having problems with it. No matter what gear I'm in or what speed I'm going, whenever I push the 4WD button, I just hear a bunch of clicks from behind the dash and the 4WD doesn't engage. It will work about one out of every twelve tries, but that's it. Once it's in 4WD, pressing the "Low Range" button either does nothing or turns off 4WD altogether.
Does anybody have any ideas? I'm thinking that there's a control module of some sort behind the glove box that isn't functioning; it's got to be an electrical problem of some kind since the 4WD works fine when it actually engages.
Someone will know for certain but I think if you are still hearing the relays clicking in the control module its more likely that the electric shift motor on the T-case is bad. Seems I have read that somewhere before. If the motor is malfunctioning or working intermittently, the T-case won't engage since the motor moves the shift fork as I understand it.
