Swap '06 into an '03 Excursion

Hey guys,

I had an injector tip break off and damage the #3 cylinder. Ford tech told me I need to replace the motor.

I have a line on a used '06, what do I need to verify before I commit to swapping them.

I currently have a BulletProof Oil Cooller and EGR cooler. I'd like to keep those. Can I just swap the intake and exhaust manifolds from the old to the new? Are there other sensors I'd need to mess with?

yes they will swap. does the 06 come with a wiring harness? if so it will swap and plug and play. if it doesnt check out puredieselpower. they have pigtails for the ipc sensor and epb sensor. also the ipr valve i think has to be switched out or something. but if the 06 comes with the harness then your fine!

run the complete 06 engine as long as its from a truck your good to go. no need to swap intakes either. just use the 06 harness.

If I am not mistaken, the later EGR manifold has a different flange angle then a 03 EGR manifold. It's possible you have to use a later up pipe.

yes it is its called an updated part. Its a better design. it fits in the hole, takes up space and works just fine.
lets not forget the turbo and pedistel are different too. IMO I would use the 03/04 for the whistle and spool up.
if you want something a little bit on the quite side use the 06 unit.

anything else ....do you work on these trucks day in and day. Becasue I can sure use some help at the shop.

please learn your engine better so you can give correct advise

Your funny. If I put a early 03 round cooler on a 05+ intake manifold the back support bolt is not even close to matching, so in my eyes it doesn't work.

What part am I not under standing? Please indulge me? The early 03 cooler will not fit properly into a 05 + intake manifold, I even posted pictures to back up my point so there is no exception. The back support bolt will not line up at all and if you decide to install it any ways it will put extra weight on the passenger side up pipe greatly increases the chance of cracking the up pipe. Not trying to come on like a dick but I felt like he was trying to so I am just fighting fire with fire.

just have to use the 03 up pipe thats it. if he is worried about the pipe having to much stress then just tack weld it to the support no big deal. just because a support bolt doesnt line up doesnt mean that you cant modify something to work just the same.

There is a difference between doing it right and then making it work. If were talking making it work/ janky then okay, thats not how I like to do things but I sure as heck hope a tech doesn't "make" it work on my truck if its in the shop.
